A hit-and-run crash in unincorporated central Broward County in late June left the victim with fatal injuries, and Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are releasing surveillance video of the crash in hopes of locating and arresting the hit-and-run driver.
Surveillance video released today by BSO shows that on June 30, the victim, an adult male, was driving northeast on Northwest 25th Avenue as he approached Franklin Park Drive near Fort Lauderdale. At the same time, a driver on Franklin Park Drive stopped at a stop sign and made a left turn onto Northwest 25th Avenue. That driver struck the front driver side of the victim’s 2000 Nissan Maxima. Following the crash, the victim exited his vehicle. The driver who hit his car, backed up and started to drive away. The victim attempted to speak with the driver, who kept going and ran over him.
The victim suffered injuries but managed to get back into his car and drive away. The victim reported the crash later that day. A BSO deputy took a report from the victim and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported him to a hospital for treatment. On July 21, the victim died from injuries sustained in the crash. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit was notified of the death on July 28 and began an investigation.
Detectives believe the hit-and-run driver was driving a four-door, 2019-2022 model Chevrolet Malibu, which is tan or beige in color. The vehicle would have sustained damage to the driver side front end or driver side quarter panel.
Detectives wish to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or its aftermath. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run driver or the whereabouts of the vehicle is urged to contact BSO Traffic Homicide Det. Sherry Portoro at 954-321-4843, or to submit a tip through the SaferWatch App. If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
