BSO DETECTIVES MAKE ARREST IN CASE OF BODY FOUND IN A CANAL LAST YEAR

Description of Incident:
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit have arrested 35-year-old Shem Sherrod for last year’s murder of Christopher A. Patterson.  

At approximately 11:06 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 1, Broward County Regional Communications received a call reporting a body floating in a canal near the 4500 block of Southwest 43rd Terrace in Dania Beach. BSO’s Dania Beach District deputies and BSO’s Dive Team responded to the scene. The body of an adult male was recovered. BSO’s Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.  

During the preliminary investigation, BSO homicide detectives identified the victim as Christopher Patterson. Investigators continued working the case for months, following every lead. 

Through investigative means detectives identified Sherrod as the suspect. Detectives say the homicide occurred near a body of water under a bridge at 4501 S. State Road 7 in Davie. 

On Wednesday, April 9, Sherrod was arrested. He was booked at BSO Main Jail and faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery.
