It was a brazen, unprovoked attack caught on camera – an elderly man exiting a store in Lauderdale Lakes is approached by a stranger and punched twice in the face. Now, Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit detectives want to find the attacker.
According to detectives, the battery occurred just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Walmart store, located at 3001 N. State Road 7. Surveillance video shows an elderly man exiting the store with a shopping bag in his hand. As he gets past the first set of sliding doors, the subject punches the victim in the face. Detectives say the subject is a tall, thin male wearing a navy sweater with grey lettering on the front, black pants and flip flops. The attacker then turns and leaves the entryway to the store, heading north towards Oakland Park Boulevard on foot.
Detectives say the attacker did not steal anything from the victim, and the victim does not know the attacker and did not have words with him prior to the incident. The victim sustained minor injuries.
