Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal vehicle versus bicyclist crash that occurred on Friday in Pompano Beach.

According to detectives, at approximately 4:42 p.m. on Friday, May 27, the bicyclist, Jose Deras, who was riding a 2012 Resonance DBX bicycle, was traveling eastbound across the north/south lanes of South Andrews Avenue. At the same time, the motorist, Love Lie Aime, driving a 2013 Chrysler 200 sedan, was traveling north in the left thru lane of South Andrews Avenue. As the driver approached the intersection of Southwest Sixth Street and just prior to impact, Aime observed the bicyclist, swerved to the right and applied the vehicle’s brakes.

The front side of Aime’s vehicle struck the front tire of the bicycle and propelled Deras north. BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. Paramedics pronounced Deras deceased on scene. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Investigators do not believe excessive speed, driver impairment or mechanical malfunction contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
