Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) detectives arrested a suspect early Thursday morning who was wanted for a fatal fire that occurred in Tamarac in December.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 26, Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a structure fire in the apartment complex located at 7900 S. Colony Circle. BSO deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded. The building was evacuated, and the fire was extinguished. One person, identified as 29-year-old Keera Brabham, was found inside apartment 203 and transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units responded to investigate and speak to witnesses and family members. Through their investigation, detectives determined Laren Lenworth Emile was responsible for the homicide and fire.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Emile and on Thursday, Feb. 15, he was booked into BSO’s Main Jail. Emile faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of arson.
