Description of Incident:

Cooperative teamwork between the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the FBI led to the swift arrest over the weekend of a 15-year-old Weston teen accused of posting a video threat to commit a school shooting on a social media app.

On Saturday evening, the FBI received a tip through its National Threat Operations Center alerting them to the recently posted video threat. The FBI investigated and immediately informed BSO’s Threat Management Unit and Real Time Crime Center. The two agencies worked quickly and closely together to investigate the information. By early Sunday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the FBI received the tip, the teen was in custody. He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing and faces one felony count of making written threats to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism. The investigation into the case continues.

The male, a student at a private school in Broward County, admitted to making the video and said he intended it as a joke. However, all threats are taken seriously, are fully investigated and could lead to criminal charges, when appropriate.
