Description of Incident:

A 6-year-old boy from Miami was found unresponsive at the bottom of a pool in Dania Beach Sunday while attending a get-together.

Numerous adults and children gathered on Sept. 15 around the pool area at the Beach Walk at Sheridan apartments, located at 311 E. Sheridan St. The kids had been going in and out of the pool playing and enjoying the water when one of the adults noticed the boy submerged in the deep end of the pool. The adult jumped in and got the 6-year-old boy out of the water and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Broward Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications received the frantic call for help just after 7 p.m., and units were dispatched to the location.  Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported the child to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital where he remained in critical condition throughout the night. He was pronounced dead around 2:13 Monday morning.

The child had arrived at the get-together with his mother. The boy’s body was transported to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing though homicide detectives do not suspect foul play.
