Description of Incident:

On Wednesday, a bicyclist was fatally struck by two drivers as he crossed an Oakland Park street. Broward Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit is investigating the deadly collision.

Around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 26, the motorists were headed west on West Oakland Park Boulevard when Rodolfo McGovern entered the roadway from the north side near the 2500 block. He cycled directly into the path of a 2004 Lexus sedan and was struck before being propelled southwest into the westbound lane where he was struck a second time by a Toyota Corolla. 

Both drivers immediately stopped and remained on scene. BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the scene where McGovern was pronounced dead. The drivers didn’t report any injuries.

According to THI detectives, McGovern entered the street mid-block and outside of a designated crosswalk. Their investigation continues.
