Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) detectives arrested Frantz Laine for his involvement in a multi-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Feb. 13, within the City of Tamarac.

On Monday, Aug. 14, detectives took custody of Laine and transported him to BSO’s Main Jail. He faces several charges including two counts of vehicular homicide, several counts of reckless driving and one count each of possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly after 1:24 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 13, BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives responded to the 7400 block of West McNab Road in Tamarac to investigate a multi-vehicle traffic crash. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2019 Hyundai was traveling westbound on West McNab Road attempting to turn left into the north entrance of the University Commons shopping plaza. At the same time, Laine, driving a 2014 Lexus IS250, was traveling eastbound on West McNab Road. The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of the roadway.

The Hyundai was struck with such force the engine was detached from the vehicle before it flipped over and came to a final rest on the driver’s side. At least one occupant was ejected when the vehicle flipped over.

The Lexus was redirected off the roadway where it struck a fire hydrant, several bushes, a large plaza sign and rolled on top of an unoccupied parked 2016 Toyota Corolla before coming to a final rest in the parking lot at 7300 West McNab Road. After being struck, a piece of debris from the large plaza sign pierced an unoccupied parked 2009 Audi A4 parked in the area.

Tamarac Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Paramedics transported all five occupants of the vehicles to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The front passenger of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased. A week after the crash BSO traffic homicide detectives were notified the driver of the Hyundai succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash.

The investigation continues.
