Detectives with the Broward Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit arrested Dwayne Fye on charges related to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The arrest came a day after investigators released surveillance video of an altercation Fye was involved in at a business in Broward County.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3, near the 2700 block of West Sunrise Boulevard. When BSO deputies responded, the victim told investigators that an unknown subject around 6 feet tall with a slim build and a bald head had attempted to exit the store without paying for a beer.
In the surveillance video, released to the public on Tuesday, Oct. 31, a subject is seen wearing a green baseball hat, green shirt and black shorts entering the store. The individual then walks directly toward the back of the store where the beverages are and removes a beer from the refrigerator aisle. The subject then walks back to the front of the store, where he and the victim have a verbal exchange. In the video, you can see the subject place the beer can on the counter before poking the victim several times in the chest. The subject is then seen exiting the store.
Detectives say the verbal dispute continued outside and that the subject threatened the victim with a knife before leaving the premises.
According to the victim, approximately 5 to 10 minutes later, the subject returned to the business. Another verbal altercation ensued, and the subject displayed a gun. Surveillance video captures the subject entering the business a second time wearing a black baseball cap, black shirt and shorts.
Through investigative methods, detectives identified Fye as the subject in the video.
On Wednesday, Nov. 1, Fye was located and taken into custody. He was transported to BSO Main Jail and faces one count of aggravated assault without an attempt to kill with deadly weapon, one count of aggravated assault without an attempt to kill with a firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
