Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a single-vehicle crash that left a 39-year-old man dead in Dania Beach Wednesday evening. According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 10:41 p.m., March 16, in the intersection of Marina Road and Southwest 30th Avenue, a “T” style intersection.

The preliminary investigation revealed Joseph Michael Demczuk was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe heading eastbound on Marina Road at a slow rate of speed. The vehicle proceeded through the posted ‘STOP’ sign and continued east until the front of the vehicle struck a four-foot concrete barrier wall. The slow speed impact caused the driver’s side airbag to deploy.

Broward Sheriff’s Office district deputies responded and removed Demczuk from the vehicle. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue also responded to the scene and transported Demczuk to a local hospital, where he later died.

Detectives say excessive speed and mechanical malfunction are not considered contributing factors in this crash. The investigation continues.
