Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a fatal crash that killed a man earlier this month in Deerfield Beach.
Shortly after 8:47 p.m., on Wednesday, June 15, BSO detectives responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle crash at the intersection of Northeast 48th Street and North Dixie Highway in Deerfield Beach.
The on-scene investigation revealed the juvenile was driving a 2009 Ford Escape SUV heading southbound on North Dixie Highway in the designated left turn lane. At the same time, the driver of a 2007 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle was heading northbound on North Dixie Highway in the outside thru lane. The driver of the Ford Escape made a left turn into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist applied the brakes but was unable to avoid a collision. The motorcyclist and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. The Ford Escape came to a controlled stop.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded and transported the driver and passenger of the motorcycle to a local hospital. The driver of the Ford Escape was taken into custody.
On Tuesday, June 21, the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased.
According to investigators, impairment and excessive speed are not considered to be contributing factors to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
