The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a crash that occurred on March 21 and killed a pedestrian in Lauderdale Lakes.

That Friday afternoon BSO district deputies responded to the intersection of Northwest 46th Avenue and West Oakland Park Boulevard after receiving a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. 

The preliminary on-scene investigation revealed Ignatius D. Balistrere was walking westbound on the sidewalk, on the south side of the roadway, crossing Northwest 46th Avenue. Pellegrino driving a 1998 Ford F150 was stopped waiting to turn eastbound onto West Oakland Park Boulevard. 

Investigators say when Pellegrino proceeded to make his turn, Balistrere walked into the path of the vehicle. 

After the crash, Balistrere was transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment of injuries originally diagnosed as not life-threatening. On Sunday, March 30, medical personnel pronounced him deceased. 

The investigation is ongoing.
