Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a crash that killed a man in Pompano Beach.

At approximately 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, deputies say a 2008 Jeep Compass was traveling northbound on Southwest 26th Avenue approaching the intersection of North Palm Aire Drive. At the same time, a 2014 Buick Verano was traveling southbound on Southwest 26th Avenue approaching the same intersection. 

The investigation reveals that the driver of the Buick Verano was making a left turn onto North Palm Aire Drive when Nelson Ervin, the driver of the Jeep Compass, entered the intersection striking the front passenger side of the Buick Verano. Ervin was ejected from the vehicle.  

Both drivers and a passenger inside the Jeep Compass were transported to Broward Health North. The driver of the Buick Verano was pronounced deceased. The occupants of the Jeep Compass sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening. 

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
