As the United States prepares to celebrate Veterans Day on Thursday, Sheriff Gregory Tony invited Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputy Aaron Moore onto the Shop Talk with the Sheriff podcast to discuss Moore’s military career and his service to BSO.

Moore served in the United States Army National Guard, joining after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He spent 18 months in the Middle East, much of it on foot patrol in Ramadi, an Iraqi city, interacting with citizens and ensuring their safety. For Moore, Veterans Day is a chance for him to reflect on his military service.

“It’s a day of honor,” Moore said. “It’s that one day where I can stand proud. And for those who don’t know a veteran, who’ve never seen a veteran, they see or they can somewhat understand what we’ve been through.”

Moore comes from a military family and said the empathy that he gained in Iraq helps inform his service to the Broward County community. As a member of BSO’s Neighborhood Support Team, Moore interacts with the community on a daily basis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he helped BSO distribute more than 300,000 boxes of food and 2,500 hot meals to those in need.
