Lieutenant Major Hallmon, Jr. was born on September 28, 1945 in Miami, Florida. In 1969, Major and his family relocated from Miami to Pompano Beach. In 1972, he accepted the nomination as Chief of the Collier County Volunteer Fire Department. He remained in Collier County until September, 1981. From 1981 to 2001, he continued in the field of firefighting as a Lieutenant with Broward County Professional Paramedics and Firefighters until his illness prevented him from continuing his profession. He was very devoted to his wife of 38 years, Pauline, and their two children, Wayne and Kim. Major had a genuine concern for his friends and community and even saved the life of a neighbor when the car he was working on caught on fire.
