Captain Jason Tarala

Dania Beach

Captain Jason Tarala joined the Broward Sheriff's Office in 2003.

Assigned to the Oakland Park District, he worked in various capacities, including road patrol deputy, field training deputy and narcotics investigator. He also served on the auto theft task force.

In 2013, he was promoted to sergeant and served Dania Beach and Cooper City. He was selected in 2016 to manage cruise operations for Port Everglades. In April 2017, he was promoted to lieutenant overseeing patrol operations for Port Everglades and the continued oversight of all cruise operations, including harbor patrol. In February 2018, Captain Tarala was assigned to Dania Beach as the district patrol commander. In February 2020, he was appointed as the Dania Beach Executive Officer overseeing all daily operations. He was promoted to captain in May 2023 and selected as the Dania Beach District Chief. 

Captain Tarala holds a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University in criminal justice and a master's in criminal justice. Captain Tarala is a graduate of the Florida Sheriffs Association Commanders Academy.
