Lieutenant  Gerard Charles

Lieutenant Gerard Charles is a US Navy veteran who began his law enforcement career in 1994 when he joined the New York Police Department as a police officer. In 2000, he migrated to Florida and joined the Broward Sheriff's Office as a deputy assigned to the Oakland Park District. During his career at BSO, he has served as a road patrol deputy, field training deputy, detective, and in the agency's Field Force Unit, specializing in crowd control and management. 

In 2007, he was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Deerfield Beach District as a patrol supervisor. He later served as an Internal Affairs investigator, supervisor at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport, and the Child Protective Investigations Section (CPIS), until his promotion to lieutenant in 2019. As a lieutenant, he served as a shift commander at the Central Broward / Lauderdale Lakes District until 2020, when he was selected as the executive officer for the South Broward District.
