The Broward Sheriff's Office is a full-service, nationally accredited public safety agency. BSO's Department of Law Enforcement serves 16 specific areas in Broward County, including the Broward County Courthouse, the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, areas of the Everglades and the county's waterways, including Port Everglades, all areas of Unincorporated Broward and 13 cities and towns that have contracted with BSO to provide law enforcement services.

DLE also administers the agency's Special Units and Divisions section-specially trained and staffed units that deal with unique law enforcement situations including the Marine and Dive Rescue Unit, the Motorcycle Unit and the Crime Lab among others.

The Broward Sheriff's Office's Communications Division provides 9-1-1 intake, Teletype and dispatch services for all Unincorporated areas of Broward County, 21 municipalities and numerous special patrol areas including the port and airport, BSO's Department of Detention, BSO's Department of Fire Rescue, court services and the South Florida State Hospital.
