Operations

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Operations Division is responsible for the day to day activities within fire suppression and protection, emergency medical services, fire prevention, and regional services. Operations is also responsible for the Fire Rescue Regional Logistics unit which supplies most fire departments in Broward County with operational supplies and equipment through an online catalog and order-placing system.

Fire Suppression and Protection

All stations also operate as Advanced Life Support companies, staffed with firefighter / paramedics and a full complement of advanced life support equipment and medications. The department also operates four regional service delivery teams: Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Air Rescue and Everglades Rescue.

BSO maintains only dual-certified firefighter / paramedic l on its rescue vehicles.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

All of Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services stations operate as Advanced Life Support companies, staffed with firefighter / paramedics and a full complement of advanced life support equipment and medications.

Fire Prevention Bureau

Focusing on fire and life safety inspections, fire prevention code enforcement, and public education programs, the Fire Prevention Bureau is instrumental in raising public awareness of potential fire and life safety hazards.

Fire Rescue Regional Services

BSO Fire Rescue provides several highly specialized services to Broward County's municipalities and Unincorporated areas through its Regional Services division.

Air Rescue, Technical Rescue, the Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat) Team and the SWAT/Tactical Medics Team are deployed when crisis or life-threatening situations require specially-trained first responders with the equipment, vehicles and experience to deal with these extremely challenging and difficult rescues/situations.

The Advanced Bicycle Unit is deployed in conditions where access by vehicle is impossible or impractical.

Fire Rescue Regional Logistics

BSO's Fire Rescue Regional Logistics Unit sources and supplies fire suppression, fire prevention and other fire-related equipment including Emergency Medical Equipment and Supplies for the agency's Fire Rescue personnel and for most fire rescue departments in Broward County from a 25,000 square foot storage and fulfillment facility in Ft. Lauderdale.

Product catalogs and online ordering are available to authorized purchasers from South Florida fire departments. Orders are generally processed within 48 hours and deliveries are made each weekday in the South Florida area.
