ColonelOscar Llerena

Executive Command Staff

Colonel Oscar Llerena joined the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 1996 as a patrol deputy.  He has served in a variety of assignments, including Patrol Services, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Community Services, and Professional Standards.   He has held seven different supervisory or command level ranks, including assignment as district chief and watch commander, prior to achieving his current rank of colonel. 

Colonel Llerena is also a Florida CJSTC certified instructor in several fields, and is certified as an assessor by both the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). 

He is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) at Boston University and the FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from the University of Miami.

Colonel Llerena is an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police , Florida Sheriff’s Association, Broward County Chiefs of Police Association and the National Tactical Officers Association.
