- WATCH THIS! ROLEX THIEF TAKES OFF JUST IN TIME (February 2012)
Of all places to get sticky fingers, an airport security checkpoint should be at the bottom of the list. With that said, what do you get when you combine a pricey piece of jewelry and a suspect who couldn’t fight the urge? An excellent surveillance video clearly showing the crime and the culprit. Gloria de Regalado was following the rules as she placed all her belongings in a plastic bin to get through the Terminal 3 checkpoint at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on January 18. Thirty minutes later, when she looked at her wrist to check the time she realized she had left her $6,500 Rolex inside the bin. Regalado rushed back to the checkpoint, but her watch was nowhere to be found. A Transportation Security Administration supervisor reviewed the surveillance video and confirmed Regalado had in fact left her watch and saw that the man who went through the checkpoint behind her took it. The video clearly shows the suspect collecting his belongings from the conveyer belt. After putting on his shoes, he reaches into a bin to grab his laptop and notices the two-toned Rolex in the bin next to his. He grabs it, and then walks away from the checkpoint to a metal bench where he puts the laptop and watch into his backpack. TSA notified BSO deputies who checked the terminal searching for the man, but he was not located. BSO deputies had no way of knowing which plane the man boarded, but looked for the suspect in a flight that had taxied out and notified Dallas authorities of the theft since a flight had recently departed to that city. It was a valiant effort, but the suspect was not on either of those flights. Detectives believe the suspect could be from South Florida. They are asking anyone who recognizes the thief or has information about the case to contact BSO airport detectives at 954-359-1201 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest. [ View ]

- Security Bars Do Not Stop Houdini Bandit (March 2011)
In an entrance reminiscent of Harry Houdini, a man with a hammer smashed the glass front door of a Pompano Beach pharmacy and squeezed through the metal security bars to steal pills from the shelves. Surveillance cameras captured the Feb. 21 burglary at Drugs 4 Less in Pompano Beach. In the early morning hours, the man smashed the door, slid through the bars and wandered among the shelves, shoving prescription pills such as Triazolam and Lorazepam into his shirt. It appears that he cut off the sleeves of his purple shirt and wore one sleeve as a mask. He had on jeans, a dark belt and old, dirty sneakers. He wore socks on his hands. At one point, he lifted his mask to look around and then flipped on the lights. When he was done, he tried to get out a back door but couldn’t get the lock to open. So he went out the way he came in – by slinking through the bars on the front door. Anyone with information on this case and/or the identity of the robber is asked to call BSO Pompano Beach Detective Joel Rivero at (954) 786-4242 or anonymously report information to Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or on online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
