The Broward Sheriff’s Office is the first sheriff’s agency in the world to receive the prestigious Center for Public Safety Excellence’s (CPSE) accreditation for its Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. The accreditation was conferred August 1 in Denver where the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) convened.
“This elite recognition means that every aspect of Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue was evaluated in-depth and reaffirms our commitment of delivering the highest level of service to our residents,” Sheriff Al Lamberti said. The intensive accreditation process was completed over a 20-month-long period by a team of assessors who evaluated all facets of BSFR’s operational model and practices.
Only a select few fire departments achieve this status. “Completing the accreditation process is just the beginning. The dedicated men and women of Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue take what we do seriously and strive to be even better tomorrow than we are today,” Fire Chief Neal de Jesus said. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), there are 30,125 fire departments in the United States. There are only 161 departments in the world that are CFAI accredited. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue is the only department in Broward County and the third county-based department in the state to attain such accreditation. MEDIA NOTE: Following the news conference with the sheriff and fire command staff, BSFR’s Regional Technical Rescue Team will perform a high-angle rescue demonstration.
