Description of Incident:
A Massachusetts man was arrested Monday on computer pornography charges after he arrived in Broward County for a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl met through an internet chat room.
The investigation preceding the arrest began on September 10, 2001, after an undercover BSO detective, assigned to the LEACH task Force (Law Enforcement Against Child Harm), received an instant computer message from someone calling himself “Gladiator 6789.” The detective was posing as a 14-year-old girl. During 10 subsequent computer chats, “Gladiator” admitted that he was a 53-year-old man and said he wanted to have sex with a teenager, describing in detail what sort of sex acts he would enjoy and transmitting several sexually explicit photographs depicting the acts he hoped to engage in.
Investigators learned through the internet service provider (AOL) that Gladiator was actually Thomas Little, 53, of Williamsburg, Massachusetts. Little told the undercover detective that he would like to meet her at a public park in Plantation on April 1st. A rendezvous was arranged for Liberty Tree Park at 7421 NW 5th Street. A female undercover officer posed at the 14 year old and other detectives kept the park under surveillance awaiting Little’s appearance. When Little arrived at noon he was placed under arrest, charged with Computer Pornography and eight counts of Transmission of Materials Harmful to Minors. He was booked at BSO’s Mail Jail with his bond set at $9,000.
Little declined to give a statement to detectives.
