RACECAR DREAMS SHATTERED WITH STOLEN TRAILER
SURVEILLANCE VIDEO OF CULPRITS AT WORK RELEASED
A man’s life-long dream of opening his own racecar business was driven out of the city of Oakland Park inside a V-Nose trailer on May 19. Investigators are releasing surveillance video of the suspect’s white cargo van in hopes of finding the stolen trailer and recuperating the racing car parts that had taken the victim a lifetime to collect.
The images show the cargo van around 9:30 a.m. driving down the 4700 block of Northwest 8 Terrace in Oakland Park in front of an industrial park. The van parks next to the trailer and is then seen hauling it away.
Detectives say there were two suspects, believed to be Hispanic, inside the van. The van is a mid-90s to early 2000 Ford Econoline. It has a glass window on the passenger-side sliding door, steel wheels, black rear and front bumpers and a black grill. It has a Sunpass on the windshield and a white Apple sticker on the driver’s side mirror.
The trailer is a 2011, tan-colored, 7x14, double-axle, V-Nose trailer with a side door, ramp rear door and silver wheels. The trailer contained mostly thick, unpainted steel jigs (some with white paint writing), several nickel-plated rods, a chromoly chassis and spare chromoly components. There were also several large fiberglass molds, car body pieces and tie-downs in the trailer.
The parts are valued at around $12,000 but were invaluable to the owner who had his heart set on opening Hendricks Racing and building his own Lazer Formula Vee.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s van, the stolen trailer or the suspects is asked to contact BSO Detective Armando Hernandez at 954-202-3121 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
