Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have named a person of interest in the homicide of 42-year-old Kris Smalls of Weston. Smalls was reported missing March 18. He was found dead in his SUV a week later.
Smalls’ SUV was discovered March 25 at 2105 Pasa Verde Lane in Weston with him dead inside. Detectives want to talk to Felipe Alex Torrealba, 25, who has a history of arrests and also has warrants for his arrest in Broward and Miami-Dade on unrelated charges. They believe he may be with his girlfriend, Dayana Garcia, who is nine months pregnant or who may have recently given birth. They are likely in South Florida and may be driving her silver 2009 Toyota Camry.
Torrealba made headlines in January when he prompted Sweetwater Police officers to shoot at him as he fled after a traffic stop. Officers had stopped him for driving a stolen car that was driving erratically and discovered that he had warrants on narcotics and assault charges. Torrealba fled and was hit in the ear by an officer’s bullet.
Anyone with information about Torrealba’s whereabouts or the homicide can contact BSO Homicide Det. Valerian Perez at (954) 321-4210 or report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
Media note: A mug shot of Torrealba from 2011 is attached to this release.
