Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office has arrested Jeffry Collin Schwenn, a 23-year old Pompano Beach man with a lengthy criminal record, and charged him with the vicious rape of a Minnesota woman vacationing in south Florida.

In the early morning hours of March 24, 2002, the victim and a female friend were socializing at the outdoor bar of the Fisherman’s Wharf in Pompano Beach when they met Jeffry Collin Schwenn and two other men. The group talked until about 3:30 in the morning at which time the victim invited the group to where she was staying for a nightcap.

At about 6:00 that morning, the 26-year old victim told the group that she was tired and wanted to get some sleep. She walked the three men out of the building in the 300 block of N. Ocean Boulevard and returned to find some money missing from the dresser in her room. The victim checked the door locks and retired.

The victim told BSO detectives she awoke about an hour later to find Schwenn holding a knife to her throat. She said Schwenn repeatedly raped her and threatened to kill her if she resisted. From a photo lineup, the victim positively identified Jeffry Collin Schwenn as the man who had raped her.

Schwenn, on probation for a 2000 drug arrest, is held without bond in BSO’s main jail facing nine separate charges ranging from sexual battery and home invasion to burglary.
