Description of Incident:
Two Miami men have been arrested in connection with the death of Ezra Buckner who was killed as he attempted to flee the suspects Tuesday morning in Lauderhill.
Shortly after 10 a.m., the victim’s sister, Tanya Buckner, called 911 after getting into a verbal altercation with the two male suspects regarding a previous business deal that ultimately fell through. Not wanting to be confronted by police, Demetrius Woody and Herman Bain left Buckner’s Sunrise apartment, located at 2041 NW 64 Avenue. Buckner said her brother, Ezra Buckner, followed the suspects in order to copy their license plate.
Buckner followed Woody and Bain to the 1300 block of NW 56 Avenue in Lauderhill, where he rammed their car. Angered by Buckner’s action, one of the suspects reached through the driver’s side window and started punching Buckner. When he tried to escape, the second suspect struck him too. As Buckner ran from the scene, Woody shot him multiple times with his .40 caliber Glock handgun. Buckner was transported to Broward General Medical Center where he later died. Woody and Bain were taken into custody shortly after the incident in the 5600 block of NW 13 Street.
At the request of Lauderhill PD, the Broward Sheriff's Office homicide unit was called in to investigate the death. During questioning, BSO homicide detectives learned that for the past two weeks Woody and Bain had been trying to recover $700 they had given to Tanya for consulting fees on an upcoming event they were planning to promote.
Woody and Bain admitted to their involvement in the shooting death of Erza Buckner. Both men are being held without bond at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale. Woody faces an open count of murder, and Bain is charged as a principal in first degree to murder.
