You have an open invitation to showcase your marital arts skills at the Broward Sheriff's Office Fourth Annual Back to School Karate Tournament. The competition will be held this Saturday, August 25th at Millennium Middle School starting at 9 a.m. and is open to all ages. School age competitors will receive free school supplies while they last.
Participants will be judged on Weapons, Forms, Self Defense, Sparring and Kendo - the art of Japanese swordsmanship. First, second and third place medals will be awarded in each category. You must bring your own protective gear and equipment.
The Back To School Tournament was started four years ago in order to help needy school-age children get needed school supplies they otherwise might not be able to afford. The students “pay” for their entry and supplies by donating new and used clothing. This clothing is then given out to other people in need. Through this event, the Broward Sheriff’s Office has given away school supplies to hundreds of students. The tournament is a success due to a partnership with local businesses. Businesses sponsor the medallions and the school supplies.
The Broward Sheriff's Office PAL programs include football, basketball, baseball, soccer, double-dutch, karate, wrestling, boxing, the Marine Cadets, the BSO Explorers, and many others. Those interested in competing in the tournament should register in advance with BSO Sensei Larry Klarman at (954) 914-3982 or email@example.com.
MEDIA NOTE: FOR MORE INFORMATION ON BSO’S PAL PROGRAMS, PLEASE CONTACT SERGEANT DAN JACKOWSKI AT (954) 321-4100.
