Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives, working with Coconut Creek police, have obtained a first-degree murder warrant against a man suspected of shooting to death a 22-year old Pompano Beach woman near a Coconut Creek school.
Sometime around 8:45 the morning of Friday, April 12, 2002, Annette Arteaga was in the parking lot of Atlantic Vocational & Tech Center at 4700 Coconut Creek Parkway, where she was enrolled as a student. BSO detectives believe 24-year old Alejandro Rodriguez approached Ms. Arteaga, shot her, and fled the campus.
Ms. Arteaga was rushed to North Broward Medical Center where she died at about 10:30 am.
Early reports from witnesses indicate that Rodriguez may have raced away from the school in a dark green, 4-door Honda or Toyota with dark-tinted windows. However it is possible Rodriguez may be driving a different vehicle at this time.
It appears that Ms. Arteaga had had a restraining order issued against Rodriguez and that he was also wanted on an aggravated stalking warrant prior to today’s fatal shooting.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office has notified other law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for Rodriguez and is warning that the murder suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Alejandro Rodriguez should call their local police, or Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS. A photograph of Rodriguez is attached to the news release, “BSO INVESTIGATES COCONUT CREEK MURDER” at www.Sheriff.org.
