Description of Incident:
The Sheriff’s Targeted Anti-Crime Response Team (S.T.A.R.T.) continues to make great strides in Dania Beach with the recent arrest of 144 individuals following a two-month sweep.
Commencing on June 12th, the Broward Sheriff's Office Dania Beach Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) conducted several operations from visible proactive enforcement to undercover drug buys, where detectives drive into targeted areas and purchase drugs from street dealers.
As part of their law enforcement efforts, the NRT identified a number of street-level drug dealers and fugitives. By the end of the city-wide sweep, on August 7th, 73 felony arrests, 28 misdemeanor arrests and 43 warrant arrests had been made. In addition to those arrested, investigators also confiscated close to $19,000, 70,000 ecstasy pills, approximately 66 grams of crack cocaine, one gram of powder cocaine, six grams of marijuana, and two vehicles.
This operation was conducted with efforts from the NRT and other Dania Beach personnel, resources throughout the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and members from South Florida HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area).
In September 2000, Sheriff Ken Jenne launched “Operation S.T.A.R.T.”, which is designed to take back Broward neighborhoods from drug dealers. Since then 910 narcotics and prostitution related arrests have been made in Dania Beach, 662 in unincorporated Central Broward, 920 in Pompano Beach, and 495 Deerfield Beach.
