SPARKS FLY DURING ROOFTOP COPPER THEFT

FOUR JUVENILES ARRESTED FOR STRING OF BURGLARIES

PIO #13-5-19

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested four juveniles in relation to a string of copper thefts from A/C units in Oakland Park.

BSO Oakland Park detectives were investigating three burglaries that had occurred from May 3-15.

  • First Steps for Kids Daycare, 3890 N. Andrews Ave. – between 5 p.m. May 3 and 8 a.m. May 6.
  • Prospect Plaza, 55 E. Prospect Rd. – between midnight and 6 a.m. May 6
  • Full Gospel Assembly, 3909 N. Andrews Ave. – around midnight May 15. (attached video is of the suspects committing the burglary at this location)

On May 15, Sunrise Police officers stopped two suspects who were in possession of burglary tools.  The suspects told the officers they were involved in some crimes in the city of Oakland Park.  Sunrise PD contacted BSO Oakland Park detectives and during an interview, they determined those two suspects and two others were involved in the three copper theft cases in their city.

Surveillance video of the May 15 burglary at the Full Gospel Assembly shows the suspects on the rooftop committing the robbery.  The suspects almost burn themselves as sparks fly in their attempt to remove the copper conduit.  This video was the last piece of evidence BSO detectives needed to arrest the suspects.  On May 22, detectives arrested the four juveniles at their respective homes without incident.

The suspects are (pictures are NOT being released):

  • Ryan Victoria, 7/22/96, 6371 NW 11 St., #7, Sunrise
  • Cedrick Turin, 1/14/97, 6320 NW 11 St., #203, Sunrise
  • Louis Roper, 1/27/97, 2932 NW 55 Ave, Lauderhill
  • Jordan Cleary, 8/21/95, 6320 NW 11 St., #101, Sunrise

All the suspects are charged with burglary to a structure with damage over $1,000 and dealing in stolen property.

For all three cases the burglars made around $1,100 by selling the metal, yet caused around $60,000 in damages for the businesses.

 The investigation is ongoing.
