More than 1,000 children meet Santa and receive gifts at annual toy giveaway

Santa Claus arrived a few days early in Broward County this year, and in a BSO patrol car instead of his traditional sleigh. But that didn’t seem to matter to more than 1,000 Broward County children, judging by the broad grins as Santa handed them their presents.,Santa and Mrs. Claus once again joined Sheriff Ken Jenne and dozens of representatives of the Broward Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, December 21st for BSO’s 10th annual Toys for Tots and Teens toy giveaway.,“All year long, we work to strengthen ties with the community,” said Sheriff Jenne, “and this event is enormously gratifying for the kids, parents and for the entire BSO family. We’re pleased to be able to provide these gifts to children who might otherwise go without.”,Hours before the start of the event, parents and kids began lining up outside BSO headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale for their chance to visit with Santa and receive some of more than 8,000 toys generously provided by area businesses and residents. Many of the youngsters in attendance are selected and invited by BSO School Resource Officers and School Board staff. In addition to toys, BSO also offers grocery gift certificates to families in need.,The annual BSO Toys for Tots and Teens toy giveaway continues to make the holidays a happier time for deserving children with the kind support of many South Florida businesses, including:
