Description of Incident:
An elderly Fort Lauderdale woman is charged with systematically stealing thousands of dollars from a 73-year old Pompano Beach man and investigators fear there may be many other victims.
Broward Sheriff's Office detectives say 71-year old Nymah Keyes of 1401 NE 9th St., Apt. 3, Ft. Lauderdale spun a convoluted tale of money lost and made promises of sky-high returns in order to defraud her victim.
In January 2002, Keyes told her victim that she and a partner had had millions of dollars seized by the government and that they needed to raise funds in order to get the confiscated cash released. She also told the victim that any money he gave her would come back with outrageous returns.
Over the course of several days, Keyes managed to defraud her victim out of more than $15,000.00 with a promised return of more than $250,000.00.
BSO detectives arrested Keyes on Wednesday, January 30, 2002. She is locked up on more than $35,000.00 dollars bond.
Broward Sheriff's Office investigators feel Keyes has left many more in the wake of her fraudulent scheme. If Nymah Keyes has approached you or victimized you, or you have any information about her, call Broward Sheriff's Office Detective Mitch Gordon at (954) 786-4280, or Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
The Broward Sheriff's Office would also like to remind you that if something sounds too good to be true, it almost always is. Don’t become a victim of scam artists.
