Description of Incident:

A 30-year-old man died today in the lake near his Deerfield Beach home, apparently the result of an accidental drowning.

The fatal incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. According to witnesses, the victim, Victor Clodfelter, fell off the dock behind 4311 Crystal Lake Drive, plunging into Crystal Lake. After entering the lake, Clodfelter stood up in the shallow water near shore and then began swimming. After swimming a short distance he went underwater and failed to surface. Fire Rescue divers responded to the scene and pulled Clodfelter’s body from the lake at 2:50 p.m. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

According to neighbors, Clodfelter was a strong swimmer who successfully swam across the lake on previous occasions.

Broward Sheriff’s Office District 10 deputies responded to the scene along with BSO Homicide and Crime Scene detectives. Clodfelter’s death appears to be the result of accidental drowning, however the official cause will be established following an autopsy by the Broward Medical Examiner.
