Description of Incident:

A bizarre situation on a Deerfield Beach lake kills a Hollywood man.

Sometime around 10:45 the morning of Thursday, November 15, 2001, 31-year old Leon Resnick and a co-worker from Riva Yamaha in Pompano Beach were testing a customized personal watercraft.

Resnick was running the craft up and down the lake as his partner watched from shore. After making several maneuvers, Resnick decided to make one final pass. As Resnick got the watercraft up to about 55 mph, his co-worker turned around to get a radar gun to check the speed of the small vessel. When the co-worker turned back, he saw that Resnick was no longer on the
craft.

The co-worker searched for several minutes before finding Resnick in the water. He pulled Resnick to shore, attempted CPR, and notified the authorities.

Broward Fire Rescue arrived on the scene at approximately 10:50 am and transported Resnick to North Broward Medical Center where he was declared dead.

Investigators from the BSO Marine Unit believe the victim was knocked from the personal watercraft by a duck, which struck Resnick in the face as he sped the watercraft along the lake.

The medical examiner has determined that Resnick died from drowning and blunt trauma to the head.
