It’s time to sign up for the 25th annual Broward Citizens Academy open to anyone who wants to learn more about law enforcement and the Broward Sheriff's Office.

During this 12 week orientation course, students will learn about the history of law enforcement, media relations, gang identification and prevention, Crime Stoppers, criminal investigations, the Department of Detention and Community Control, BSO K-9, crime lab and fingerprinting, bomb and arson, countywide operations, why deputies handle situations the way they do, and use of force.

Anyone interested in taking part in the Citizens Academy should contact Cheryl Vara at 954-321-5076.

Requirements: Must complete application for criminal history check. Those with internet access can download an application from the BSO website at www.sheriff.org. From the home page, go to Community Programs then click on Citizens Academy.
