Description of Incident:
A 42-year-old Oakland Park man has been charged with murder for stabbing his mother to death inside their Oakland Park apartment home Tuesday evening.
At 7:34 p.m. the Broward Sheriff's Office received several calls from residents of the Bridgewater Place apartment complex, reporting that a domestic disturbance was occurring inside unit 213. When deputies arrived a few minutes later they found the victim, Amy Hunter, lying in the hallway outside her apartment. She had been stabbed multiple times. Her son, Alan Hunter, made a spontaneous utterance, telling the deputies that he had killed his mother. He was taken into custody.
Deputies called paramedics to the scene and they attempted to revive her but were unsuccessful. She was declared dead at the scene.
In a statement to detectives, Hunter said that he had been angry with his mother for about a week and that night they got into a verbal argument. Hunter said he armed himself with a kitchen knife and stabbed his mother several times. At one point, Hunter’s wife, Rhona Hunter, tried to intervene and sustained cuts to her hands.
Hunter told detectives that he is an accountant for H&R Block and is a student of Sociology at Florida Atlantic University. Hunter was charged with an open count of Murder and was booked at the Broward County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
