Description of Incident:
A reward is being offered for information that helps The Broward Sheriff’s Office track down an armed and dangerous gunman who shot another man late Sunday morning in Pompano Beach.
According to detectives, shortly before 11:00 a.m. on August 18, 2002, the gunman and the victim were involved in a minor traffic accident in the parking lot of the Tricia Dona restaurant at 791 South Dixie Highway.
Both men got out of their vehicles and began to argue. Suddenly, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at 27-year old Jose Juan Garcia-Liberato. Garcia-Liberato instinctively put up his hand and the bullet went through his hand in into his face.
Garcia-Liberato, of 771 SW 8th Street, apartment 106 in Pompano Beach, was rushed to North Broward Medical Center. His condition at this time is not known, but his injury is not thought to be life threatening.
BSO detectives say that after the shooting, the gunman, known as “Chino”, sped away in a dark green, late model SUV –possibly an Isuzu Rodeo or Ford Explorer- with tinted windows and a partial Florida tag of G-G-1. “Chino” is a Hispanic male approximately 30-35 years old. He may have fled to Miami-Dade County where he may have family. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on this shooting, “Chino”, or the suspect vehicle should contact authorities immediately; call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS or dial 9-1-1. A reward of up to $1,000.00 may be available for information leading to the arrest of this dangerous criminal.
