Lauren’s Kids Remember Alley Victims Today
Tuesday, Jan. 24th, 11 am
BSO Fire Station 106 / Rest Stop
34.5 mile marker of Alligator Alley, West Broward
a.k.a. 34000 Everglades Parkway
Lauren Book, who is walking the State of Florida to raise awareness of child sexual abuse, will lay a wreath on Alligator Alley, the final resting place for many victims over the years.
In the most extreme cases, when the abuse goes too far and the victim cannot survive, the abuser will sometimes take steps to dispose of the evidence. Because of its remote location and teeming reptile population, Alligator Alley has been a common dumping ground for decades. Lauren, who was an abuse victim herself in Broward County, wants to remember the lives lost with a memorial tribute.
Lauren plans to walk to the rest area where Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Station 106 is located at 11 a.m.
Station 106 is on the south side of Alligator Alley, near mile marker 34.5, about nine miles west of the toll plaza at US Highway 27.
Gary Karp, whose daughter Marissa’s body was left along Alligator nine years ago, will also attend the memorial.
BSO law enforcement and fire rescue officials will be on hand in a show of support for Lauren and her cause. For more information on Lauren’s Kids, please visit their website at http://laurenskids.org/
