The Broward Sheriff’s Office will remember those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attack at the Fifth Annual Patriot Day Memorial Service at the Public Safety Building September 11, 2012.
The keynote speaker will be Rear Admiral Vincent B. Atkins, U. S. Coast Guard and Director of U. S. Southern Command. RADM Atkins directs all military operations in the Caribbean, Central and South America.
Sheriff Al Lamberti has also authorized the men and women of BSO and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue to wear a special 9/11 tribute badge on their uniforms the week of September 8 - 16 to honor the 343 FDNY, 23 NYPD and 37 Port Authority Police Department heroes who died in the line of duty 11 years ago.
A piece of steel from the World Trade Center was presented to the Broward Sheriff’s Office on September 11, 2008 by the United Retired Firefighters Association and remains on permanent display at the Public Safety Building as part of the 9/11 tribute.
Immediately following the Patriot Day Ceremony, Sheriff Lamberti, Fire Chief Neal de Jesus and Senior Chaplain Clay Brasington will join families of fallen firefighters to unveil and dedicate the Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Memorial Wall in the lobby of the Public Safety Building. The wall will serve as an additional way to honor the ultimate sacrifice of Broward’s fallen firefighters and paramedics.
