BSO AUCTIONS EVIDENCE ON LINE
Looking for a great deal? Well, check out the Sheriff’s Sale – online. Each year, the Broward Sheriff's Office cleans house by auctioning items to the public from its evidence unit. For the first time, these unclaimed and confiscated items are available on the Internet at www.propertyroom.com. Most of the items offered for sale on the site come from law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.
By teaming up with an Internet auction site, BSO can offer hundreds of items from its evidence unit to thousands of potential buyers at one time. Those surfing the site have an opportunity to bid on such items as jewelry, collectibles, books, bicycles, electronics, computer equipment, audio and video equipment and so much more.
Items from BSO’s evidence unit were featured on line for the first time just after Memorial Day. There are currently more than 350,000 items in BSO’s evidence storage facility in Fort Lauderdale. These items remain in BSO’s custody until they can legally be disposed or discarded.
Propertyroom.com also helps users recover stolen property by matching serial numbers on stolen property with those found in the propertyroom.com database. Propertyroom.com cross-references registered serial numbers with those stored in stealitback.com’s database. When a match is found that property is returned to BSO or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
To find out more information, go to www.sheriff.org and click on “BSO Introduces On Line Auction” from the home page under the section titled “News from BSO”. There you will find links to both propertyroom and stealitback databases.
