Description of Incident:

An armed suspect was shot and killed by a BSO deputy in Pompano Beach.

At 6:22 p.m. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call at a two-story apartment building at 811 SE 22 Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies saw a man armed with a handgun and pointing the weapon at another person standing outside a second floor apartment. The man fired one round with his gun, striking no one. Deputies ordered the man to drop his gun. Instead of complying and dropping the gun, the man started walking down an outside stairway, still holding the weapon in his hand. One BSO deputy fired, striking the man and killing him.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics pronounced him dead. No deputies or citizens were hurt.

Per standard procedure in all deputy-involved shootings, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit and Internal Affairs Division are investigating with assistance from BSO’s Pompano Beach District.

The name of the suspect, an adult male, is being withheld until next of kin are notified. The deputy who fired will be placed on administrative leave for a minimum of three days, per standard procedure.

No additional information will be released overnight.
