Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office, working with information provided by the Broward County Clerk of Courts Office, has arrested a courthouse employee.

“This is an unfortunate incident, but this office has a zero tolerance policy for this type of behavior,” said Howard Forman, Clerk of Court.

The suspect, Angela Sheffield-Reed, 44, had been an employee of the Clerk of Courts for 11 years and was assigned to the Family and Civil Division. Sheffield-Reed failed to credit the Clerk’s account with money that should have been received for filing fees and was able to steal over $5,000.

Sheffield-Reed was arrested Thursday morning on a charge of Organized Scheme to Defraud. A third degree felony, the offense carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Sheffield-Reed was booked at the Broward County Jail on Thursday and was released today on $5,000 bond.
