Description of Incident:
The Broward Sheriff's Office has identified a man found floating behind a home in Pompano Beach Tuesday afternoon.
A passerby in a small boat made the discovery and used his cellular phone to contact 911. Arriving BSO deputies confirmed that a body was floating in a shallow portion of the large canal running behind a house at 1010 SE 5th Avenue in the Cypress Harbor community. BSO Marine Patrol Units and Crime Scene and Homicide detectives responded to investigate the death.
The deceased has now been positively identified as 48-year-old Robert Kirlin, who had been staying in a home he was renovating, located on the Intracoastal Waterway in Pompano Beach, about six blocks south of where his body was found. Detectives theorize that he may have fallen into the water at his home, drowned, then floated to the location where his remains were observed.
There were no signs of foul play. The Broward Medical Examiner has tentatively determined that Kirlin’s death resulted from accidental drowning, pending toxicology results.
