Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue once again teams up with the Florida Division of Fire Marshal to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, Prevent Kitchen Fires. Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue life safety educators have a full morning of fire safety education on tap for Watkins’ students with the BSFR Fire Safety House, a virtual reality smoke simulator setup like a house inside, fire trucks and a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog, who has a special recipe for a sweet fire-themed treat for the winning class of the escape plan contest.

This marks the 91st year Fire Prevention Week is observed, making it the longest-running public health and safety observance on record. For more information on fire safety, visit www.sheriff.org or www.fpw.org.
