Description of Incident:

The discovery of a man’s body in a Pompano Beach lake has triggered a traffic homicide investigation.

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives with the Traffic Homicide Investigation unit are working to determine how a 2009 blue BMW Sports Wagon ended up in a lake near 2921 Center Port Court. Around 2:20 p.m. June 5, Regional Communications received a call that a body was floating in the water. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and BSO road patrol deputies responded. BSO’s crime scene, marine, THI and homicide units also went to the scene.

The agency’s divers and marine deputies recovered the unidentified man and the sports utility vehicle, which was about 25 feet below the water’s surface. THI detectives suspect that the BMW left the roadway at slow speed prior to entering the water.

THI detectives, BSO’s Crime Scene unit and Broward County’s medical examiner’s office are working to identify the man.

The fatal crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact THI Detective Donnard Huneke at 954-321-4842. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
