Date: February 14, 2014                                                       Time: 3:29 a.m.

Jurisdiction: Dania Beach

Description of Incident:

A 23-year-old man fatally shot his new girlfriend early Friday morning, staged the crime scene to make it look like she had killed herself and then reported the fake suicide to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

BSO deputies at the scene immediately notified homicide detectives, who noticed that the physical evidence in room #108 of the Grand Motel didn’t add up to suicide. After an autopsy of the victim’s body, the Broward County Medical Examiner’s office concurred, ruling the woman’s death a homicide.

Carlos Cadavid admitted to detectives Friday afternoon that he killed his girlfriend, whom he had known for only four days. He will be charged with first-degree murder.
