DEADLY DEPUTY-INVOLVED SHOOTING

Description of Incident:

A suspect who intended on robbing a business in Pembroke Pines and harming anyone who got in his way encountered Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies who felt forced to fire their weapons.

The fatal shooting occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at a business located at 1462 S. Palm Ave. in Pembroke Pines. Earlier in the week, BSO detectives learned from a confidential informant that the 23-year-old Miramar man was planning on robbing the business today. When the masked gunman entered the business, he encountered BSO deputies and did not comply with their orders.

The deputies perceived a threat and responded with deadly force. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured, and there were no employees inside the business during the shooting.

Per BSO policy, homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Three deputies have been placed on administrative assignment.
