Description of Incident:

Two home invasion suspects are on their way to the Broward Sheriff's Office main jail after deputies quickly captured the pair following a mid-morning robbery in the Lloyd Estates area of Oakland Park.

The victims, a brother and sister, were asleep in their home at 581 NW 40th Court when the suspects barged into the one-story complex. It was about 10:00 am when the suspects entered the young woman’s bedroom, awakened her, reportedly threatened her with a handgun, and demanded money.

The woman told investigators that she managed to hit the redial button on her cellular telephone, a move which dialed-up her boyfriend. The boyfriend, hearing the commotion on the other end of the phone, notified the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Two neighborhood response team deputies who were in the area heard the radio call from dispatch and were at the victims’ home almost immediately, surprising the suspects as they walked out the front door of the victims’ home. Although ordered by deputies to halt, the suspects fled on foot into the residential area.

Immediately, a perimeter was established, a nearby elementary school and a day care center were put on lockdown, and additional support from road patrol, K-9, and the BSO helicopter was called-in.

Deputies captured both suspects quickly and within a 2-4 block radius of the crime scene. One was caught at 10:32 am. The other was taken into custody at 11:04 am.

No one was injured, the stolen money was recovered, and BSO robbery detectives are continuing with their investigation.
